GIANTS MAKE STATEMENT

It's not good enough just to beat the Padres, the Giants wanted to beat them down. They wanted to flex their muscles and bully them into submission. Tonight at Petco Park, that's exactly what they did. They showed the Pads that things have changed from earlier in the season. They were tired of being pushed around and they were going to push back.

They did something that they never did before, they hit 4 homeruns at Petco Park. Aubrey Huff, Juan Uribe, Buster Posey, and Pat Burrell, in that order, all hit bombs tonight. And I mean BOMBS. All four were crushed way out of the park. Without those power threats in the line-up, the Giants would be going nowhere this year.

Last year the Giants were scratching and clawing for runs. Remember "the ground attack"? I despised that saying, and that kind of play. The Giants organization has a history of feared power hitters. From Ott, to Mays, to McCovey, to Clark, to Mitchell, to Bonds. We are used to having that threat in our lineup. Ever since Bonds retired, we have had no serious threat. No one to get the opponent thinking, "when is his turn coming up in the line-up?" Well now we have a lot of those kind of guys in the line-up. There is consistensy throughout. And consistent power. From leadoff hitter Andres Torres, with 14 homers and a slugging % of .481, to Juan Uribe, who has been hitting in the 8th slot recently. He hit his 20th hr of the season tonight.

This was only the first game of a 4 game series, but the Giants made a big statement to the Padres. We are going to take over, and you aint gonna stop us!
